Special features
The"Chiavennasca" Nebbiolo grapes come from the ‘Inferno’ area of the Valtellina Superiore DOCG. The name says it all. We are in the narrowest part of the appellation, just over 50 hectares where the slopes of the Valtellina vineyards reach 75%, so the sun exposure of the dry stone walls obviously has a greater effect, creating truly “hellish” temperatures, particularly during the summer season.

Like all our Reserves, sourced from the “historic” areas of Valtellina Superiore DOCG, this is one of the wines that have shaped the history of Cantina Nera. Its production began almost in tandem with the major commercial development of Valtellina viticulture, dating back in particular to the 1960s.
It is a wine with character, without compromise, "vertical" like the dry stone walls on which the vineyards stand, warm, mineral, enveloping yet always austere, savoury and harmonious – just like all the Nebbiolos of Valtellina. Cantina Nera is also the winery in Valtellina with the largest vineyard holdings in the “Inferno” area, so this wine can also be considered one of the most important in the winery’s production. As a "Riserva", it is produced only in the best vintages and in limited quantities.
