VARIETY
OF WINES :: Brugnola (sin. Fontana)
Dual aptitude variety, recognised for both
its production of wine as well as for eating.
Its presence in Valtellinese vineyards is
linked not only to vinification, but also to
the pleasure of tasting it when new. The
tradition of leaving bunches on the vine
branches to ‘dry’ for eating during the
winter period was well known. It is known
for its brief vegetative cycle distinguished
by very late germination; nor does it fear
the rigours of winter and late Spring
frosts.
